Awkwafina
American musician and actor Awkwafina debuted with sly rap tracks that tackled sexual identity and race with a boldly comedic perspective before broadening her reach to Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese-Korean immigrants who resided in Forest Hills Queens. Her first encounter with music was from the trumpet. After a classical and jazz education, she delved into hip-hop in her teen years. While in college, she focused on her studies. She studied women's studies as well as journalism. For a brief period of time, in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were also available. After graduating, she began to concentrate on music. The year 2012 saw My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet sensation and featured on her debut album Yellow Ranger. The album also featured viral hit tracks, such as body positive Queef and a wink-y home tour NYC Bitche$. This track was directly linked into another venture Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide, which was published in 2015. After a successful career as a performer, she decided to take on the role of an actor. Apart from the early television shows such as Girl Code and Tawk, she's also appeared in movies including Neighbors2Storks and Bad Rap. Her breakthrough came in the year 2018 when she appeared in a number of movies that were highly regarded, such as Dude Ocean's Eight as well as Crazy Rich Asians. The EP came out in June.
