Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American singer-actress and former model. Most famously, she is known for her part in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain as well as singing lead in Apollonia 6, a girl group. Apollonia was given the title of an actress and female singer by Prince. Through the 1980s she was among numerous artists who benefited from Prince. She was born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959 her career began as a model actress in the late '70s and included an appearance on the television show CHiPS. Kotero was the female lead in Prince's Purple Rain in 1984 (at which point he had changed his name). The same year, she took over Vanity in the form of the trio Vanity 6 and was a part of their name Apollonia 6 in the film. The trio scored a modest smash with Sex Shooter however it was as Prince's duet partner on Take Me with You from the soundtrack that she had a greater chart impact. After a disagreement about the direction of her career Apollonia 6 broke up, and Kotero ended her association with Prince. Kotero went on to be featured in a few minor roles during this time (reportedly refusing to take part as a character in The Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) before landing in the role of a nighttime drama Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia made her debut album in 1988. However, the comparatively insignificant collection of dance and R&B songs did not make much impression on those who bought music, and soon the album vanished out of sight. The following decade saw she continued to work as an actress (if a little unnoticed) and also in a few film roles, television appearances and even an exercise film. In 1997 Apollonia recorded a bilingual album in Spanish and English named Stay with me. Then, she went back to the college where she earned an education in filmmaking.
